Discipline Coordination
One platform for every discipline on the team.
Blueprint organizes your firm by discipline — Architecture, Structural, MEP, Civil, and Fire — with role-based access, discipline-specific task assignment, and a shared project workspace that keeps every team member aligned.
The coordination challenge in multi-discipline practices
Architecture and engineering projects require tight coordination between multiple disciplines. The architect needs to know when the structural engineer has completed the foundation design. The MEP engineer needs to know when the architectural floor plan is frozen. The civil engineer needs permit status from the building department before finalizing the grading plan. When each discipline works in its own silo — separate email threads, separate file storage, separate task lists — coordination failures are inevitable.
Six discipline roles built into the platform
Blueprint assigns every team member a specific discipline role that determines their access level and how they appear in the project workspace.
- Firm Architect — leads design, manages project stages, and coordinates with all disciplines
- Firm Structural — manages structural engineering tasks, calculations, and permit submittals
- Firm MEP — coordinates mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering deliverables
- Firm Civil — handles site work, grading, utility coordination, and civil permit submittals
- Firm Fire — manages fire protection design, sprinkler coordination, and fire permit submittals
- Firm Office — handles administrative tasks, document management, and client communications
Discipline-specific task assignment
Tasks in Blueprint can be assigned to specific team members by discipline. When the architect creates a task for structural calculations, it goes directly to the structural team. When the civil engineer needs a site plan update from the architect, they can assign the task and track its status without sending an email. Every task is tied to the project, so nothing gets lost in someone's inbox.
Shared project workspace with role-based visibility
All disciplines share the same project workspace in Blueprint, but each team member sees the information relevant to their role. Firm admins have full visibility across all disciplines. Staff members see their assigned tasks, the project timeline, and the documents relevant to their work. Clients see only what the firm chooses to share through the client portal.
Task Calendar by discipline
Blueprint's Task Calendar lets each team member see their own tasks with due dates in a day, week, or month view. Firm admins can switch between any team member's calendar to see their workload at a glance. This makes it easy to identify scheduling conflicts, redistribute work when someone is over capacity, and ensure that coordination milestones are met before downstream disciplines are blocked.
Who benefits most
Discipline coordination in Blueprint is most valuable for firms that:
- Operate as multi-discipline A&E practices with in-house structural, MEP, or civil teams
- Manage consultant coordination across multiple external engineering firms
- Work on projects where coordination failures have caused costly delays or errors
- Want to replace email-based coordination with a structured, trackable workflow
- Are growing and need to onboard new discipline staff without disrupting existing workflows
